The cars have their actual driving potential on the hardest setting, with the top teams blowing away the junior teams like they should. The career races themselves pit you against AI that can be aggressive, but drives smart, and from what I've seen (only in 3rd season), is very realistic AI. While I enjoy the authenticity of the long weekends, the one shot adds a lot of tension to it as you can't go back to the pits, slap on a new set of tires, and try again for 10 minutes. The Career mode allows for 25% - 100% long races, with the option of having the 3 free practices and 3 qualifying shots before the race, or 1 free practice and 3 qualifying, or a 1 shot qualifying session that puts you out on a flying lap and you only have the one lap to qualify. This gives you the chance to experience 10 tracks in quick succession, and 5 different teams. You beat them, you get their seat on their team, and choose a new rival. The quick season is 10 tracks, single shot qualifying, and 5 laps (or 3.I think 5), with you selecting a rival then having a best out of three races challenge against them. The meat and potatoes then comes down to the career and quick season modes.
The new driver test is good for a once through to get a feel for it, but after that, isn't viable either. It's entertaining but replayability isn't there. F1 2011 added some new features, and F1 2012 carried over all the features and added some, along with smoothing out graphical problems.į1 2012 has a fun Champion challenge mode that pits you against the current F1 champs on the field and different challenges, like can you overtake Hamilton at Interlagos from 5th after you just got on fresh rubber and he's on worn tires. F1 2010 came out and a lot of the features found in the Champ edition were missing, but the racing was pure. F1 Championship Edition from 06 or 07 was a very simple, graphically simple, but well designed game.
